1845AD - 1875AD

Scarborough Bridge was built in 1845 for a new line carrying passengers to the coast.

An 1853 photograph shows it looking quite different from now.  There were arched supports underneath the bridge (the remnants can still be seen if you look for them).  Originally, if pedestrians wanted to use the bridge they had to walk between the two tracks.  The bridge was accessed up stairs that are now bricked up.

In 1875 the bridge underwent major changes as part of works for the new station.  The tracks were raised by four feet and the footpath was moved to its current position along the south side.
